In a bold move to combat soaring unemployment and unlock the potential of its young population, the Richmond Local Municipality has rolled out a ground-breaking youth development initiative.
This programme not only aims to equip young people with essential skills but also ensures they receive a stipend during their training—empowering them to sustain themselves as they prepare for the job market.
At the heart of this initiative is a learnership project that has brought hope and opportunity to 60 young residents, carefully selected from all municipal wards. These young participants are gaining skills that will not only benefit them but also contribute to the broader development of the community.

This initiative is already delivering success stories. Four beneficiaries recently shared their inspiring journeys, highlighting how the programme has transformed their lives and given them the tools to step confidently into the future. These stories stand as a testament to the power of investing in youth empowerment and skills development.
By prioritizing the fight against unemployment and building the capacity of its young people, the Richmond Local Municipality is taking a decisive step toward creating a self-reliant, skilled, and vibrant community. This initiative represents more than just training—it is a lifeline of hope, a bridge to opportunity, and a spark for sustainable growth.
